Please enjoy a video about the history of the Galesburg Rescue Mission and Women’s Shelter. We are honored to have a wonderful past led by men and women who love the Lord and are excited for the future.
The Galesburg Rescue Mission and Women’s Shelter exists to help meet the need of others. We are a community Social Service Agency offering hope for the homeless, hungry, poor, needy, addicted, victims of domestic violence, ex-prisoners, the lost and lonely. We do not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, race, handicap, race, color, religion, nationality or ethnic origin. We are a locally based ministry supported by the concerned people and groups. We are governed by a Board of Directors which consists of 11 volunteers. We have 16 employees of both full time and part time workers. We have numerous volunteers that assist in many areas of the operation of the Mission. We are a para-Church organization, serving with and through local Churches. We are a respected Knox County institution founded in 1942 by Rev. and Mrs. Sylvester Sanford on the public square in Galesburg. In 1966 we moved to 266 East South Street. In 1976 we relocated to 1021 South Seminary Street. In 1983 we purchased the old Douglas school building and that is where we were until October 2023. There have been many changes and additions to this building. In October of 2023 we moved the Nielson school building 547 North Farnham Street. We invite any and all to stop by and see what the Lord is doing here.
Joshua 4:6-7 “ That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones? Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.” Let us always remember the wonderful past that God has blessed us with.
