From the DIRECTORS DESK Hello, friends and supporters of the Galesburg Rescue Mission!
My name is Chance Uhland, and I want to take a moment to introduce myself and share a little about who I am, where I come from, and why serving at the Galesburg Rescue Mission means so much to me.
Before coming to the Mission, I worked for Bridgeway as a System of Care Coordinator for the McDonough/Fulton County ROSC. In that role, I had the privilege of advocating for individuals and families affected by mental health and substance use challenges. My work included Narcan distribution, community outreach, and prevention and intervention presentations in area high schools.
I truly enjoyed my time at Bridgeway and learned a tremendous amount from the people and communities I served. But my own lived experience continued to pull my heart toward faith-based ministry.
My story is personal.
I know what it is like to need another chance. I know what it is like to have a past. Most importantly, I know what it is like to experience the life-changing grace of Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the reason I was able to break free from the life of sin I once lived. My recovery and the person I am today are grounded in my faith in Him. That is ultimately what brought me to the Galesburg Rescue Mission. Here, I have the opportunity not only to help people address practical needs such as housing, employment, recovery, mental health, and self-sufficiency, but also to openly share the Good News of the Gospel and the hope that can be found in Jesus Christ.
Outside of the Mission, I am 38 years old and live outside of Knoxville with my two sons, Quincy and Colten. Quincy is 16 and Colten is 9, and they both attend the Knoxville School District. Being their dad is one of the greatest responsibilities and blessings God has given me.
I also have the privilege of serving as the Central Illinois State Representative for Celebrate Recovery, a Christ-centered recovery ministry that is very close to my heart. I attend New Harvest Church in Abingdon, where my faith continues to be strengthened and where I have been blessed with an incredible church family. I also attend Bible College pursuing credentials for The Assemblies Of God.
When I look at my life today compared with where I once was, I don't take the credit. God gets the glory.
That is why the Galesburg Rescue Mission is more than a job to me. It is ministry. Every person who walks through our doors has a story. Every person has value. And every person deserves to know that their current circumstances do not have to be the final chapter of their life.
To every donor, church, volunteer, community partner, and supporter who stands behind the Galesburg Rescue Mission: thank you. Your support allows us to continue providing shelter, food, guidance, case management, encouragement, and, above all, the message of hope found in Jesus Christ.
I am grateful God has placed me here for this season, and I look forward to continuing to serve our residents, our community, and our Lord.

The Galesburg Rescue Mission is proud to recognize **Tyler Unger as our Employee of the Month!**
Last month, we found ourselves facing an emergency when our food pantry shelves became depleted, forcing us to temporarily stop our food box distribution to the community. During a time when we desperately needed help, **Tyler stepped up in a tremendous way.**
Tyler was extremely instrumental in helping us get our shelves stocked back up, allowing us to reopen our food box distribution and once again provide food to individuals and families throughout our community.
We cannot begin to thank **Tyler and his family** enough for their generosity, dedication, and willingness to step up when the Mission needed it most. Their efforts didn't just fill shelves — they helped us continue serving people who depend on this ministry during difficult times.
Tyler, thank you for your hard work, your heart for others, and your dedication to the mission of the Galesburg Rescue Mission.
