547 N. Farnham Galesburg, Illinois 61401 309-343-4151 grmws39@centurylink.net galesburgrescuemission.org From the Director’s Desk The month of April is a month of new beginnings. People get out and are doing yard work, gardens being tilled and planted, cars are being washed from the dirt of the winter, the weather is warming up and so much more. Here at the Galesburg Rescue Mission and Women’s Shelter we are excited to see what new things the Lord will bring our way. He is always good to us! The one thing that we get excited about around here is when the Lord changes a life. We have men and women coming in from all kinds of situations that are looking for a new beginning. Recently I spoke with one of our men about why he was here at the Mission and his reply was that he had made a mess of things and wanted to get a new start. That is why we are here, to assist them in doing just that. We strive to give them the Word of God and the discipline that they need to start over and make a new way for themselves. Every day we can see the Lord doing just that, changing lives. I had the honor of doing the devotion one day and I used the person in Mark 8 that was possessed with a demon. I went through how he was so possessed that he did all kinds of things. I related it to the addictions that many of them have. I pointed out the fact that the addictions that we have will cause us to do some strange things. I went on to encourage them with the fact that he came to ask Jesus for help and Jesus took care of that demon by casting it out into a herd of pigs that were feeding near by. It was a joy to let them know that Jesus can take their “demons” and cast them out and destroy them completely. As they sat there listening I saw some lights go off in their eyes when some of them realized that Jesus was the answer to their “demons.” All of us have those “demons” we face everyday. The only way that we can overcome them is to bring them to Jesus and let Him take care of them. None of us can overcome these “demons” on our own, it takes the power of the Holy Spirit to help us. If you have a “demon” today call upon Jesus and He will help. Give it to Jesus and watch Him work! Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. We will be hopefully planting some flowers soon to help brighten the place up a bit. God is good all the time! We have had promising meetings with prospective medical directors and we will be hopefully able to move forward this month. Thank you for the prayers but please do not stop. There will be more information coming out about opportunities to get involved with the improvements happening at the Pregnancy Center so stay tuned for updates and watch your mailboxes. With the prevalence of the Chemical abortion pills being readily available to women through email, telehealth, and postal mail, our struggle to reach women sooner is just that much more difficult. Women need the chance to get educated about their options and about their pregnancy. Fear and lies of omission are what feed the misconception about chemical abortions. Rush, rush, rush. They push the time limit to kill ‘an inconvenient’ pregnancy. Women need to know that there is time. There is no rush. People make rash decisions when they are scared or stressed and often regret that decision. Most times the decision cannot be undone like with the decision to abort. The Women’s Pregnancy Center wants to help slow down the thought process. We are here to listen and educate. I cannot stress enough how not alone these women are despite how they feel. There is someone more than willing to sit and listen. All of our appointments are confidential. Appointments are not necessary if they just need to talk to someone right at the moment. May the Lord bless all our supporters. If you don’t already support, please consider becoming a monthly donor. God bless. Dawn Walter WPC Trivia Night will be May 11th Be watching for more details |
